Recently, Maybe You’ve been seeing a lot of posts across e-commerce platforms saying things like:
“Selling slime is super easy,”
“Launch a store and make $10K a month,”
“Low cost, high profit—best toy category to start with.”
Watching those videos showing tons of daily orders and backend sales dashboards, it’s honestly hard not to feel tempted. After all, slime seems like the perfect product—mid-range price, high repeat purchase rate, and not too complicated. Who wouldn’t want to give it a try? But when I actually started doing research and preparing to list products, I realized something important:👉 The hardest part isn’t selling.👉 It’s whether you can sell legally.
Most tutorials say:
Register a store → List products → Start selling
Sounds simple, right?
But the moment I tried to list “slime toys,” the platform showed a requirement:
👉 CPC Certification required (Children’s Product Certificate)
That’s when most people freeze.
What is CPC?
Who issues it?
Can I just fill it out myself?
What happens if I don’t have it?
And here’s the problem:
👉 Almost none of those tutorials explain any of this.
After digging through Google and YouTube, I slowly figured it out:
If you’re selling children’s toys (including slime) in the U.S., your product must comply with:
👉 The CPC is the document proving your product meets these requirements.
A lot of beginners (including me at first) think:
“Can I just write a CPC myself?”
The answer is: No.
A valid CPC must be based on:
👉 No test report = invalid CPC
It can lead to:
That’s when it really hit me:
👉 Compliance isn’t a bonus—it’s your ticket to entry.
Honestly, I felt a bit misled at first.
Those “how to start an online store fast” tutorials:
Then I realized:
👉 The most important information is often the least shared.
“Free advice” can end up being the most expensive.
You must understand these three things:
If your slime:
👉 Then 100% you need CPC certification.
This is critical.
A reliable supplier should be able to provide:
👉 If they only say “our quality is good” but can’t provide documents—just walk away.
A lot of beginners overlook this:
👉 Even changing colors or packaging may require re-testing.
So make sure to ask:
⚠️ 4 real pieces of advice for beginners (learned the hard way)
1️⃣ Don’t just watch “how to start” tutorials—learn compliance first
Make sure you can sell before thinking about how to sell.
2️⃣ Don’t try to fake a CPC
It must be backed by real testing reports.
3️⃣ Choosing the right supplier matters more than choosing the product
A good factory solves 80% of your problems.
4️⃣ Don’t chase profits at the beginning
First make sure:
👉 Your product can be listed
👉 You’re compliant
👉 You won’t get banned
Then worry about making money.
A lot of people in e-commerce are still figuring things out,
and many haven’t even started getting consistent orders yet.
But at least I’ve learned one thing:
👉 Business isn’t about “how to start.”
👉 It’s about “how to survive.”
Make sure you work with suppliers who have:
